LIVING WITH DYSLEXIA: HOW TO STAY EDUCATED AND EMPOWERED DURING A PANDEMIC

During the summer of 2020, Dyslessia hosted a webinar for the dyslexic community to hear from professionals and students about proven dyslexia intervention techniques, how to develop and fine tune literacy skills from home, and how to maintain confidence with dyslexia! The webinar took place July 19, 2020 at 3:00 PM PDT via zoom.

LETA PALMITER, ED.S., CALT

Leta Palmiter's mission is to impact the lives of children, adolescents, and adults with explicit, structured literacy instruction. She received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from Mississippi University for Women, my Masters in Dyslexia Therapy from Mississippi College, her Specialist in Instructional Leadership from William Carey University, and was privileged to study in the doctoral program at Vanderbilt University for a year before returning to the helm of Illuminations. She is certified by the State of Mississippi for dyslexia therapy, English, Mathematics, Elementary Education, and Special Education.

EMMA ELIZALDE

Emma Elizalde is the president of the NorCal International Dyslexia Association. She iscurrently a Reading Teacher at Town School for Boys. She also has a private practice where she works with students who have language based challenges. She previously worked as a 3rd grade Teacher at North Bridge Academy, a school for students with dyslexia, as a 1st grade Support Teacher at Marin Country Day School and was a paraprofessional at Gateway Middle School. She holds a Certificate in Education Therapy from Holy Names University, an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a B.A. in Psychology and Education from Mount Holyoke College. She is also dyslexic herself.

PEGGY STERN

Peggy Stern is an Academy Award-winning film Producer/Director with more than 30 years experience. Her dyslexia led her to filmmaking and animation at a young age, and in March 2006 Stern won the Oscar for Best Animated Short. Stern has produced for PBS, HBO, Teachers College at Columbia University, The National PTA, and National YWCA among others. She received her BA from Harvard University and her senior thesis film STEPHANIE, was turned into a PBS documentary special and broadcasted nationally.
