Using Dyslexia as a Superpower

Dyslexia is nothing but a unique way of learning. Like many other learning styles, dyslexia also comes with its benefits. Today we will focus on how dyslexia can actually help individuals in certain aspects of life.

Many students with dyslexia excel in creativity. While scientists haven’t found a direct correlation between being dyslexic and creative, it is speculated that the significant time dyslexic students spend discovering learning methods broadens their imagination. Many students learn to turn this “disadvantage” into one of their most promising strengths. People with dyslexia are told to see the world in a wider and broader angle than others, allowing them to think more out of the box.

Since people with dyslexia excel in creative aspects, it can be used in their advantage to pursue passions that require more flexibility in thinking, like acting, painting, or even broader things like inventing.

Many people with dyslexia have risen to great heights. One very famous dyslexic actor is Friends star, Jennifer Aniston. She was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was 20. She remembers going to get her prescribed glasses when she had to take an eye test. Her optometrist noticed a unique habit in her reading pattern(she used to skip four words, and jump back two), and she was then diagnosed with dyslexia. She recalls thinking she wasn’t smart and being afraid to read before she was diagnosed. But despite being dyslexic, Aniston really had an outstanding career as an actor.

Dyslexia isn’t a disorder, it is a difference and each person’s learning styles have their own pros and cons, so instead of worrying too much about the cons, start working with your pros.
